Vacation Experimentation…

Indian Summer…

I consider “bored” a dirty word. Free time to me is the ultimate blessing. I’ve found myself with a lot of it for the past few weeks and I’ve tried to fill it with equal parts decompression, inspiration gathering and experimentation. The sun shows it’s beautiful glowing face for a couple short months here in Portland, so when it’s visible in the sky we all try to soak up as much of it as possible. This afternoon I took my bike out, with my camera and sketchbook with a loose game plan to hit up a Goodwill and a caffeinated beverage after. Here are the results:

Posted up at Peet’s on Hawthorne.

Found some sweet design source books.

As always, time for the sketchbook.

Back to the cityscape…

How awesome is this envelope?

I’ve been in the process of digitizing the massive stamp collection I inherited from my great grandfather. Yesterday I happened upon this beautiful envelope in one of the binders. There’s something about the design of it that is so timeless. Perhaps it’s the US Mail Eagle logo displayed next to the red seal of the Post Office Dept. It feels very contemporary in a way. This is a great inspiration to me in my personal branding process.

Stencil Jamming…

Just a bit of Sunday experimentation with my 99 cent lettering stencil. I’ve been having a lot of fun with this thing, combining the different shapes and layering them on top of each other. I could see myself creating something pretty involved with only this simple tool.
