Balloon Head

“I love what I do.”

This is a pretty broad statement, and not always applicable to every situation, but it generally fits. I got into this trade for a reason, and I have to remind myself of that reason from time to time. Whenever the things that aren’t fun:money, taxes, invoices, past-due payment, budgets, etc.. threaten to overwhelm, I try to think of things that are enjoyable. The creative arts are about channeling this intangible universal energy into forms that help enlighten people to the ways of the universe. I take comfort in the realization that even if everything went to shit and I lost everything that I’ve worked so hard for, I could still pick up a pen and a piece of paper and draw a picture. I think the most important function of art is to find that common ground amongst all peoples and lift the collective spirit.

Not to get too hippy here, but John Lennon put it so well in his oft quoted lyric: “you may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”

Small Landscape #3

small_landscape3Note: These photographs aren’t altered or manipulated. They’re shot manual focus with my Canon 50mm lense with the aperture set at 1.8, creating an incredibly shallow depth of field. The effect is akin to tilt-shifted photography, but without any manipulation.
