My Weird Brain…

sketchbook59

At times, I wish I had a greater leaning towards minimalism. I respect designers and illustrators that can communicate a message very economically. I study the works of these people, trying to fine ways to refine my own process. Minimalism can be a lot tougher to master than an all out visual assault, which I don’t seem to have much trouble with. When I really think about it though, life isn’t minimal. It’s an explosion of sensual stimuli. I’m not going to fight against my natural tendencies forever. A goal of mine is to start an animation studio, where I have a team of twisted creatives like myself that can work together to create amazing motion pieces. I don’t want to create sterile, dumbed-down for the masses content. I want to make off-the-wall skewed short films and videos. That’s the fun stuff. I don’t want to be cautious anymore.

Animal Collective…

Last monday I was blessed to see Animal Collective perform live in Portland. They’re a band I’ve been following for a few years now and they keep getting better and better with each new release … and they’re quite prolific. Needless to say, the show left an impression on me that I wanted to commemorate somehow. Animal Collective spin a web of sound that is at the same time fearful and lighthearted. They’ve inspired my creative process immeasurably, so here’s my tribute to Animal Collective…
