The evolution of process…
If you’re reading this, you’ll notice I’ve changed a few things about the look of this page. The changes are mostly cosmetic, with a few CSS tweaks thrown in here and there. I want the look of my blog to reflect my voice, and most importantly the work contained within. This isn’t my portfolio site, it’s an online extension of my sketchbook and thought process.
The blog is a crucial tool for Designers, Illustrators, Writers and other denizens of the creative world because it allows the outside world to peak into the inner creative process. Sometimes it feels as though people outside of the creative field consider what we do “magic.” It’s really not. Over the years I have developed a process that works for my creative practice. It’s a process that’s constantly evolving, but I’m pretty comfortable with how far it’s come. It’s the job of any creative to really consider their process, and how it can be improved on a constant basis. Document, at least mentally, the steps you took along the path towards your creative solution. This will allow you to defend the final product with sound reasoning. We don’t practice magic, we practice a time-honored craft. It’s the craft of well thought out communication.
Thank you for taking the time to look into my process. As long as people care I will remain dedicated to blogging and showing the inner workings of a designer’s mind.
cheers,
-Jake
