Stencil Jamming…

Just a bit of Sunday experimentation with my 99 cent lettering stencil. I’ve been having a lot of fun with this thing, combining the different shapes and layering them on top of each other. I could see myself creating something pretty involved with only this simple tool.

Let the rebrand begin…

The relaunch of my freelance career calls for a personal rebrand. Above you see my original two marks, for myself – Jake Hollomon and my experimental/illustration venture Micron Hero. For the rebrand I’m aiming to create an identity system that can closer integrate the two sides of my creative self. Over the past few weeks I’ve sketched out some rough ideas. I’ll now be working to refine what you see below into two cohesive marks. From there the identity will be applied across the board to my new range of personal collateral, such as business cards, portfolio and website. Check back frequently if you’d like to see how this progresses.

Enjoying the summer’s last stand.

Last week gave us temperatures ranging from high 90s all the way down to mid-60s. On Wednesday, Wolf and I took to the hills. The Columbia Gorge is but a short drive from metropolitan Portland, but the change of pace is drastic. We hiked up what felt like a thousand feet in elevation along a rocky trail to a mystical waterfall. The whole hike up we wondered if we were on the wrong path, but our patience and perseverance were rewarded in the end.

It’s nice to take a bit of time to enjoy the last bits of this beautiful Oregon Summer before it’s too late and the clouds and rain lock us back up in the dungeon for the next 9 months.

Time to unwind…

Yet another ghost.

This one from back in May. Inspired by allergies and the grip they hold on my sinuses for a few months out of the year. I’m sure many more ghosts will surface from the sketchbook over the coming months.

Freelancing once again.

I find myself once again out in the wild blue yonder. I a little over a week I’ll be willfully unemployed. I’m looking forward to rebranding my freelance practice. I’ve learned quite a lot over the past couple of years and I know I’ve got much much more to learn.

If you’re in need of art direction or creative problem solving, I’m the Micron Hero for you. Time to hustle!

I’m happy to be back out in the world of freelance.
