A pile of Helvetica

On an afternoon trip to Columbia Art & Drafting Supply I found something the average person would consider pretty unremarkable, but a designer can readily appreciate: a stencil of Helvetica Bold. I spent a good half hour manually removing the plastic fill pieces. I was left with a pile of Helvetica parts which are almost cooler than the stencils itself. I tossed the bits on the lightbox and snapped away in the dark. Here’s what I saw.

The gears are turning…

It’s Sunday evening and I’m getting geared up for the coming week. Tomorrow I’ll be putting the finishing touches on the new Jake Hollomon brand. A Micron Hero logo will follow shortly, but the personal freelance logo is most important for now. I’m starting to grow attached to the direction it’s headed in.

Today was spent traveling around town, to stop at thrift and vintage stores in search of that perfect chair. Nothing was found during this round of searching. I’m sure it will surface soon.

It’s due time I created a body of fine art drawings to exhibit somewhere. It’s something I’ve dabbled in briefly, but not very seriously up to this point. Here are a few typographic and architecturally inspired sketches I worked into my moleskine this evening:
